Berlin’s southwest offers the finest in urban nature. Steglitz-Zehlendorf is one of the greenest boroughs, with around half of its area consisting of forest, water, and green space. Düppeler Forest and Grunewald as well as numerous parks invite you to hike and relax. Glienicke Park is a gem of classicist garden design and is part of the Potsdam-Berlin UNESCO Cultural Landscape, along with Pfaueninsel. The island served as an exotic retreat for Frederick William II, and housed the King’s private zoo. Wannsee and the Havel aren’t the only destinations for water lovers, as the Krumme Lanke is also very popular. Here you can simply rent a paddle boat, rowboat, or sailboat if you want to get out on the water.
